When my husband’s company health insurance skyrocketed a while back, I decided to search for an individual plan. My friend gave me the name of an insurance representative named Linda Sables, so I gave her a call. When discussing plans, I told her I primarily needed contraceptive pills covered and my annual women’s exam. She said, no problem, and said we could add in a $35 copay for any doctor’s visits that way I would only pay $35 for my exam. Well, a few weeks later I went to pick up my birth control prescription and was charged full price, not the $10 we agreed on. I called her, and she said she didn’t know why it wasn’t discounted and she’d find out. A few days later, she called back and said that she didn’t know contraceptive pills weren’t covered, even though she told me they would be. Alright, so I’m over that. 4 months later, I go for my annual women’s exam, which is Pap Smear and breast exam. I pay the $35 copay at the front office, and think nothing of it. A month later, I get a bill for $94 for the Pap Smear. I called Assurant and they said that they didn’t pay for pap smears until a year after your anniversary date. I told them this was never explained to me, and that I payed a copay for nothing. I was mad, and then about a week later I got another bill in the mail for the physician’s $110 fee, which they also didn’t cover. I am very upset because I was completely mislead by the representative and Assurant Health. I specifically asked for only two things to be covered, and were reassured that there would be no problem. I have paid the company about $800 with my premiums now, and have gotten absolutely nothing paid for. I guess there is nothing I can do, but I just wanted to make sure I got the word out there… nJamienMount Juliet, TennesseeU.S.A.
