My fianc and I were looking for a vet with a well maintained facility for our 4 month old puppy. We chose South Bellmore as their premises are very clean and the staff courteous. Our first few visits were very much as expected, no problems whatsoever. Then came the spaying… nOur dog had her last checkup approximately 3 weeks before her scheduled spaying, at which point the vet weighed her at approximately 39 pounds. During that same visit we were informed that a $50 surcharge is applied to the spaying of any dog over 50lbs. Much to our surprise we charged the additional $50 after the operation was complete. At which point we asked the vet “She gained over 11 lbs in 3 weeks? Yes
she weighed in at 51 lbs.”” We found it hard to believe
but OK. nTwo days after the spaying the dog starting experiencing constant urination issues
blood and otherwise. Upon taking the dog back to the vet we were told she had a urinary tract infection and were provided with some antibiotics. Upon completion of the antibiotic series issues remained as the dog was leaking urine. We called the vet and they informed us that this was due to muscle strength issues related to the spaying and it would stop over time. nSince then 3 months have passed. We were beginning to think it was a behavioral issue. As the dog’s spring checkup approached we decided to try another vet. After the dogs first visit to the new vet
and the return of some test results
